The plaster cast workshop welcomes curator in residence Laurence Petrone
This spring, following its successful collaboration with two artists in residence in 2023, the plaster cast workshop welcomes Laurence Petrone as curator in residence.
Instead of showing her own sculptural work, Petrone has chosen 17 contemporary artists to participate in an exhibition. She selected them because of her appreciation of how the act of copying is at various degrees present in their artistic practice. The 17 artists are invited to a dialogue with the plaster cast workshop, its collection and the ancient craftsmanship preserved there. From this dialogue and inspired by the curator's questions, each of them makes one new creation.
The collaboration culminates in the four-day exhibition Works of Art & Copies. The dates of opening are on 17/04, 18/04, 24/04 and 25/04/2025.
There is also a publication in which the curator submitted the same set of questions to each artist as a companion for the exhibition. She used Perplexity, an AI search engine, to introduce each artist.
The artists are: Sophie Whettnall, Myrthe van der Mark, Hilde & Erik Van Belleghem, Rune Tuerlinckx, Max Pinckers & Victoria Gonzalez-Figueras, Mariel M. Matute, Simon Masschelein, Anno Dijkstra, Damien De Lepeleire, Louise Delanghe, François de Coninck, Jeanna Criscitiello, Patrick Carpenter, Yannick Carlier, Karina Beumer.
Laurence Petrone (1987) is a Belgian-Italian sculptor, historian andwriter. In 2021, she co-founded FAAR, a collective of artists based inAntwerp.
