In three renovated galleries, a selection of art objects from the 18th century are focusing on several themes that underwent radical transformation in Europe during the Enlightenment Age: nature, the state, religion, philosophy, science and technology. The aim of this permanent exhibition is to go beyond the usual historical and stylistic approach to look at ways of thinking and living in the Low Countries under the Habsburgs of Austria and in the Principality of Liège.
As well as unveiling a number of recent acquisitions, the scenography sheds new light on some of the best-known masterpieces in the collections, and bring out works that might not be as famous, but whose artistic quality and variety are a tribute to the artists of our regions in fields as diverse as goldsmithing and silversmithing, sculpture, ceramics, glassmaking, lacemaking and tapestry.
