Happy Chinese New Year of the Snake

Atlas HiSEAS (CN) x Dirty Monitor (BE)

In the Chinese lunar calendar, 2025 marks the Year of the Snake. A symbol of good fortune and guardian of the home, it is also synonymous with peace, happiness and prosperity.

At Brussels' Art & History Museum, discover an exhibition dedicated to the Chinese zodiac. Designed for the Bright Festival by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, in collaboration with the Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center and the Chinese Cultural Center in Brussels, this immersive visual experience presents 40 remarkable works. They were selected at the 2025 Global Zodiac Design Competition and include award-winning pieces from both the ‘Belgian’ and ‘International’ categories. The works are creative interpretations of the Serpent and are enhanced by a video projection by Dirty Monitor (BE).

The Chinese zodiac, a fundamental element of Chinese culture, is made up of twelve animals that follow each other in a twelve-year cycle based on the lunar calendar. Unlike Western astrology, which is based on the month of birth, the Chinese zodiac is determined by the year of birth, with each sign associated with a specific destiny and character traits. The zodiac plays a central role in Chinese life, uniting people across generations and cultures.
