Guided tour - Plaster Cast Workshop
Hidden behind a bare facade lies a national treasure, a modern place where 19th-century craftsmanship lives on and where an archaic korè rubs shoulders with a mysterious Shiva. The Royal Museums of Art and History's plaster cast workshop captures the imagination of many.
Join a guided tour and learn all about this extraordinary place, about its origins and function. Understand how in the 19th century several European countries agreed to make their most beautiful and distinguishing treasures available to each other. How casting museums were created and a thorough know-how developed in copying precious museum pieces. Marvel at the more than 4,000 moulds that are carefully preserved and restored. Finally, take a seat at the craftsman’s workbench where he will demonstrate the production process of a plaster cast step by step.
